Get to know R. Drew Dalton
“Honesty & Integrity”
Drew was born and raised in Troy, Ohio. It was through his parents R. Murray Dalton and Marylou Streeter Dalton that his love for the arts and education was cultivated. Upon graduating from Troy High School, Drew attended the College of Design, Architecture, Art, and Planning (DAAP) at the University of Cincinnati. It was thru the aid of his family and working in the college’s co-op program that Drew was able to afford architecture school. Drew went on to graduate and work at multiple firms in Ohio, and in 1999 he moved his family to Eastern North Carolina to start a firm. It was in Kinston where he became a Partner of Dunn & Dalton Architects, and was President of the company until his death in 2012.
Drew’s passion for education and the arts was something he instilled in every person he met. The aid he was given for college he felt changed his life, and throughout his years he found ways to aid others in the hope that it too could change their lives. One of Drew’s mottos was “Honesty & Integrity,” two simple words that signified his beliefs in helping others and being our truest self. This motto is a driving force for why Drew’s family has set up this foundation. The family hopes it allows students an opportunity to not be so burdened when choosing to attending college for an arts based degree.
